Pharaoh was considered a living god by his people, the most powerful man in the known world, commanding armies and ruling over millions. The idea that two Hebrew brothers could demand anything from him was absurd.

  “Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go?” Pharaoh declared arrogantly. “I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go.”
