  In the early days when the world was young and the gods were learning the weight of their power, two tribes of divine beings warred against each other. The Aesir, led by Odin the All-Father, were gods of war and wisdom, thunder and sky. The Vanir, with Njord and his children Freyr and Freyja, were gods of the earth’s bounty, of sea and harvest, fertility and gold.

  The war raged across the Nine Realms like wildfire through summer grass. Spears sang through the air, shields rang like bells, and the very mountains trembled. Yet in time, both sides grew weary of the endless battle.

This was Bragi, god of poetry and skaldic art, whose words could weave magic as surely as any spell and whose voice could move the hearts of gods and mortals alike.

  Long ago, when the worlds were still young and the boundaries between the Æsir and Vanir gods were being drawn, a great war erupted between these two divine families. After much bloodshed and sorrow, both sides grew weary of conflict and agreed to make peace.

  To seal their treaty, the gods of both families gathered in a great ceremony. Each god spat into a ceremonial cauldron, mixing their divine essence to create a binding oath that neither side would break their agreement.
