In a sunny cottage at the edge of the forest lived a mother goat and her seven playful kids. “Beware of the wolf,” she warned, “for he is cunning and will try to trick you.”

One day, the mother went to the market, leaving the kids at home. Soon, the wolf knocked on the door, disguising his voice. “Open up, children, your mother is home!”

But the kids saw his black paws and refused. The wolf went to the baker and had flour sprinkled on his paws to make them white. He returned and knocked again. This time, the kids saw white paws and opened the door.

The wolf burst in and swallowed six kids whole. The youngest hid in the clock case. When the mother returned, she found the house in chaos and the youngest trembling in fear.

Together, they searched for the wolf, who was sleeping under a tree. The mother goat cut open his belly, and the six kids jumped out unharmed. They filled the wolf’s belly with stones and sewed him up. When the wolf awoke, he staggered to the well and fell in, never to trouble them again.

The family danced with joy, safe and together once more.
