The Six Servants

In a kingdom where magic still flowed through the land like rivers through valleys, there lived a young prince named Alexander who possessed both great courage and a kind heart. Though he was destined to inherit a prosperous realm, Alexander yearned for adventure and true love above all else.
The Beautiful but Dangerous Princess
Word had reached Prince Alexander’s kingdom of a princess named Seraphina who lived in a distant land. She was said to be the most beautiful woman in all the world, with hair like spun moonlight and eyes like stars. However, Princess Seraphina was also known to be extremely dangerous.
The princess had declared that any man who wished to marry her must first complete three impossible tasks. If he succeeded, she would become his bride. But if he failed even one task, he would be turned to stone and added to her garden of stone statues - the remains of countless princes who had tried and failed before him.
Despite the terrible risk, Prince Alexander felt his heart calling to this mysterious princess. “I must try to win her hand,” he declared to his advisors. “True love is worth any risk.”
The Journey Begins
Prince Alexander set out from his kingdom with a small retinue of servants and guards. As he traveled through forests and across mountains toward Princess Seraphina’s land, he encountered several remarkable individuals who would change the course of his quest.
On the first day of his journey, Alexander came upon a man sitting by the roadside who appeared to be completely ordinary except for one extraordinary feature - he was incredibly thin, so thin that he seemed almost transparent.
“Good day, traveler,” the thin man called out. “Where are you bound on this fine morning?”
“I am Prince Alexander, and I travel to win the hand of Princess Seraphina,” the prince replied courteously.
The First Servant - The Thin Man
The thin man’s eyes lit up with interest. “Ah, the dangerous princess! I have heard tales of her beauty and her deadly challenges. You will need help to succeed where so many others have failed.”
“And what help could you provide?” Alexander asked curiously.
The thin man stood up and demonstrated his remarkable ability. “I can make myself so thin that I can slip through the tiniest crack in a wall, or under the narrowest door. No barrier can keep me out, and no prison can hold me. My name is Slender, and I would be honored to serve you on your quest.”
Prince Alexander was impressed by this unusual skill and gladly accepted Slender’s offer to join his company.
The Second Servant - The Fat Man
The next day, they encountered a man who was the complete opposite of Slender - he was enormously fat, so large that he seemed to take up the entire width of the road. Despite his size, he moved with surprising grace and had a jolly, friendly demeanor.
“Greetings, Prince Alexander!” the fat man called out cheerfully. “I am Rotund, and I have been waiting for you to pass this way.”
“Waiting for me?” Alexander asked in surprise.
“Indeed,” Rotund replied with a grin. “I have heard of your quest, and I believe you could use my particular talents. You see, I can expand myself to any size, becoming large enough to block a river or small enough to fit through a doorway. I can also store vast amounts of anything inside my belly - food, water, even people if necessary.”
The Third Servant - The Runner
On the third day, they met a young man who was constantly fidgeting and seemed unable to stand still. He had one foot bare and one foot wearing a heavy iron boot.
“Your Highness,” the restless man said, bowing quickly, “I am Swift, and I am the fastest runner in all the world. When I remove this iron boot and run with both feet bare, I can circle the entire earth in the time it takes you to blink your eyes.”
To demonstrate, Swift briefly removed his iron boot and disappeared in a blur of motion, reappearing seconds later with flowers from a distant mountain peak.
“With speed like that, I could be very useful on your quest,” Swift said hopefully.
Prince Alexander was amazed and immediately invited Swift to join their group.
The Fourth Servant - The Listener
The fourth person they encountered was a man with unusually large ears who was lying on the ground with one ear pressed to the earth.
“What are you doing?” Alexander asked curiously.
The man sat up and smiled. “I am Hearkener, Your Highness, and I can hear anything that happens anywhere in the world. Right now, I was listening to the grass growing in fields a hundred miles away. I can hear conversations in distant kingdoms, the whispers of the wind, and even the thoughts of those who speak them aloud.”
Hearkener tilted his head thoughtfully. “I can already hear Princess Seraphina in her castle, discussing the new challenge she will present to you when you arrive.”
The Fifth Servant - The Marksman
On the fifth day, they came upon a man standing in a field with a bow and arrow, but he had a cloth tied over his eyes.
“Why do you shoot blindfolded?” Alexander inquired.
The man removed the blindfold and smiled. “I am Sharpshoot, Your Highness, and my aim is so perfect that if I were to shoot with my eyes open, my arrow would split every other arrow in the world in half. I must cover my eyes to avoid causing such destruction.”
To demonstrate his incredible skill, Sharpshoot blindfolded himself again and shot an arrow that flew through the air and knocked a single cherry off a tree a mile away, without damaging the tree or any other fruit.
“Remarkable!” Alexander exclaimed, and Sharpshoot became the fifth member of their unusual company.
The Sixth Servant - The Breath Controller
Finally, on the sixth day, they encountered a man who had one nostril plugged with cork and was breathing very carefully through the other.
“Good sir,” Alexander asked, “why do you breathe in such a strange manner?”
The man replied cautiously, “I am Guster, Your Highness, and I must be very careful with my breathing. If I were to breathe through both nostrils at once, I would create a hurricane that could level mountains and drain oceans. With one nostril, I can create gentle breezes or powerful windstorms as needed.”
Arriving at the Castle
With his six extraordinary servants, Prince Alexander finally arrived at Princess Seraphina’s castle. The fortress was magnificent but also ominous, surrounded by gardens filled with statues of princes who had failed her challenges.
Princess Seraphina herself was indeed breathtakingly beautiful, with an otherworldly grace that seemed almost magical. But her eyes held a cold, calculating look that warned of the danger she represented.
“So,” she said with a voice like silver bells, “another prince has come to try his luck. I hope you are prepared for my challenges, for failure means you will join my collection of stone admirers.”
The First Challenge
“Your first task,” Princess Seraphina announced, “is to retrieve my ring from the bottom of the Red Sea. I dropped it there yesterday, and it lies in the deepest part of the ocean. You have until sunset to bring it back to me.”
Prince Alexander’s heart sank. The Red Sea was thousands of miles away, and even if he could get there, how could he possibly find a single ring in the vast depths of the ocean?
But Hearkener stepped forward and pressed his ear to the ground. “I can hear the ring,” he said after a moment. “It lies on the ocean floor, exactly 4,000 fathoms down, resting beside a large pearl.”
Swift immediately removed his iron boot. “I can reach the Red Sea in minutes,” he said. “But I cannot breathe underwater or see in the depths.”
Working Together
Slender spoke up. “I can make myself thin enough to slip through the water without resistance, and I need very little air to survive.”
“And I,” added Sharpshoot, “can shoot an arrow with a rope attached straight down to the exact location of the ring.”
Working together, the servants devised a plan. Swift carried Slender to the Red Sea in a matter of minutes. Sharpshoot, guided by Hearkener’s directions, shot an arrow attached to a long rope down to the precise location of the ring. Slender followed the rope down, retrieved the ring, and Swift brought them both back to the castle just as the sun was touching the horizon.
The Second Challenge
Princess Seraphina was surprised and displeased that the first challenge had been completed, but she maintained her composure. “Very well,” she said coldly. “For your second task, you must eat an entire mountain of bread and drink a whole lake of wine. Everything must be consumed before midnight.”
This seemed even more impossible than the first challenge. But Rotund stepped forward with a cheerful smile. “This is exactly the sort of task I was made for,” he said.
The Feast
Rotund began expanding himself until he was enormous, and then he proceeded to eat the entire mountain of bread and drink the complete lake of wine that the princess had provided. His magical ability to store unlimited amounts allowed him to consume everything with room to spare.
“Delicious!” Rotund said when he finished, patting his vast belly contentedly. “I haven’t had such a good meal in years.”
Princess Seraphina’s eyes flashed with anger, but she had to admit that the second challenge had been completed successfully.
The Third Challenge
“Your final task,” the princess announced with a cruel smile, “is to survive a night in my ice house. It is colder than the heart of winter, and no one has ever lasted more than an hour inside it.”
The ice house was indeed a terrible place, with walls of solid ice and a cold so intense that breath froze in the air. But Prince Alexander was not dismayed, for he had faith in his remarkable servants.
Guster removed the cork from his blocked nostril and began breathing carefully. “I can control the temperature by controlling the air flow,” he explained. “I’ll create warm currents to keep you comfortable all night.”
The Night in the Ice House
Throughout the long, cold night, Guster carefully regulated the air in the ice house, creating warm breezes that kept Prince Alexander comfortable. The other servants took turns keeping watch and providing additional warmth and comfort.
When morning came, Prince Alexander emerged from the ice house completely unharmed and in perfect health.
The Princess’s Fury
Princess Seraphina was furious that all three of her impossible challenges had been completed. In her rage, she revealed her true nature - she was actually an evil sorceress who had been using her beauty to lure princes to their doom.
“You may have completed my challenges,” she snarled, “but I will never marry you! Instead, I will use my magic to destroy you and your servants!”
The princess began chanting a powerful spell, and dark magic swirled around the castle.
The Final Battle
But the six servants were ready for this treachery. Working together, they used their combined abilities to defeat the sorceress princess.
Slender slipped through her magical barriers, Swift moved too quickly for her spells to hit him, Sharpshoot shot arrows that disrupted her magic, Hearkener warned of her attacks before she made them, Rotund absorbed her magical blasts harmlessly, and Guster blew her spells back at her with powerful winds.
The Transformation
When Princess Seraphina’s own magic was turned back upon her, a remarkable transformation occurred. The evil spell that had made her a sorceress was broken, and she became her true self - a kind and gentle princess who had been trapped by the curse for many years.
“Oh, thank you!” she cried, tears of joy streaming down her face. “I have been trapped by that evil curse, forced to challenge princes and turn them to stone against my will. You have set me free!”
The Happy Ending
With the curse broken, all the stone statues in the garden came back to life as the princes they once were. Princess Seraphina, now free from her evil enchantment, fell truly in love with Prince Alexander for his courage and kindness.
The six servants were rewarded with positions of honor in Prince Alexander’s kingdom, where they used their extraordinary abilities to help and protect the people.
The Wedding
Prince Alexander and Princess Seraphina were married in a magnificent ceremony attended by all the princes who had been freed from their stone curse. The six servants served as honored attendants, and the celebration lasted for seven days and seven nights.
The Moral of the Story
The tale of the six servants became famous throughout many kingdoms, teaching important lessons about the power of friendship, cooperation, and loyalty. It showed that when people with different talents work together toward a common goal, they can accomplish things that would be impossible for any individual alone.
The story also demonstrated that true evil often disguises itself as beauty, but that courage, kindness, and teamwork can overcome even the most powerful dark magic.
And so Prince Alexander and Princess Seraphina ruled their combined kingdoms wisely and well, with the six faithful servants always ready to help whenever their extraordinary abilities were needed to protect the realm and its people.
